Frequently asked questions about investing in our organic black truffle farm and owning your own truffle orchard

FAQs

1CAN THIS INVESTMENT BE FUNDED BY AN IRA (US CUSTOMERS)?
Yes, you can fund this investment through a self-directed IRA.
2DO YOU HAVE PROOF OF CONCEPT?
Yes. We first planted truffle trees in Ireland in 2015 after we completed research and development by soil testing in all 4 provinces in Ireland. Based on those results, we planted 1,000 trees in the five most suitable locations as a test. The results are in, and we are now growing the Black Mediterranean truffles in Ireland. We have chosen to scale in the most suitable location.
3HOW SECURE IS THIS INVESTMENT?
Two legal contracts back your investment; the first is your purchase contract detailing the exact number of inoculated saplings you purchase. The 2nd legal contract is the tree management contract, which provides you with our farm management responsibilities, such as your trees will be in the ground within 6 to 9 months and in detail all of our responsibilities in bringing the truffles to harvest.
4WHEN WILL I SEE MY FIRST RETURNS?
The baby saplings will be one to two years old when planted. The first harvest is usually in year 3, when 3 out of 5 trees should already be producing truffles. The tree is already five years old by then, and from years 5 to 10, the tree will reach maturity, producing truffles for 30 to 40 years. Your annual returns will be paid in the first quarter of each year.
5DO I HAVE TO PAY TAXES IN IRELAND ON THE INCOME EARNED FROM THE CROP?
Yes. Ireland’s tax rate on agricultural income is 20%. However, your initial purchase and management costs should equate to no taxes applicable for approximately the first five years. In 1997, a new double taxation relief treaty between Ireland and the United States was signed, replacing the existing treaty, which had been in force since 1951.
6HOW CAN I BE ASSURED MY PROJECTED RETURNS WILL BE MET?
In truffle production, agriculture in general, or with any investment, there are no 100% guarantees. However, we are very confident the projected returns presented in this brochure are accurate and achievable because they are based on actual production results. Our highly qualified management team has decades of experience delivering successful agriculture projects and has partnered with the world’s foremost authority in truffle cultivation. Our agri-science partner has their DNA lab with full PCR and DNA sequencing technology. They also have the largest truffle cultivation database in the world.
7WHAT IF ONE OR MORE OF MY TREES DIE OR ARE JUST NOT PRODUCING IN ALIGNMENT WITH THE PROJECTED HARVEST?
We, Tipperary Truffles will replace any tree not producing free of charge at any time during the full production and harvest cycle of 30 to 40 years.
8CAN I LIQUIDATE THE INVESTMENT AT ANY TIME?
Yes, the investment is fully transferrable. As a passive income-producing asset, your trees are worth a certain value during peak production and can be sold as a going concern. The purchasing party must agree to all clauses and responsibilities within the farm management agreement. Tipperary Truffles will charge no fee to transfer the participation to the new purchaser, although all legal costs must be borne by one of the selling or purchasing parties. Tipperary Truffles will have the first right to repurchase the trees for a fair market price.
9WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THE COMPLETED CYCLE OF PRODUCTION?
After the 30 to 40-year production cycle is complete, you can proceed with the investment. If you choose to do so, Tipperary Truffles will replant your trees and start a new production cycle. The additional costs of clearing the old trees and replanting the land will be subtracted from the profits of the final year of production. In that case, the farm management agreement renews automatically for another production cycle.
